I love the art projects that you can eat. Seriously the look on Landon’s face when I tell him he CAN put something random in his mouth is priceless. There have been some posts going around about edible finger paints and they look like tons of fun – except if you’re allergic to wheat or dairy. We live the life of multiple food allergies. Landon is currently allergic to wheat, eggs, dairy, and peanuts. He used to be allergic to a TON more. So for parents with kids with food allergies – I get it.
I know there are rice allergies out there, but it is one of the more uncommon allergies. So we experimented once again today in the kitchen to make a base that would be suitable as a finger paint as well as be safe for Landon in the event he decided to eat it (even though he is past that put-everything-in-your-mouth stage).
Edible Gluten Free Finger Paint
1/2 Cup Cornstarch
1 Cup Rice Flour
1 1/4 cup of water (maybe a little more)
Food coloring
Mix the flour and starch together. Add and mix water in until all clumps are gone. You might need to add a tad more water. Divide into smaller cups and add food coloring for desired colors.
Riley is still getting over a cold so he wasn’t all to interested in it. He touched it a few times then let me know he wanted nothing to do with it.
