Pumpkin Pie Playdough {gluten free!}

I love this time of the year. The leaves are starting to change color, the weather is starting to cool off. I love the fact that we can go to the park in the afternoons and it’s not too crazy hot. I love the atmosphere of the coming holidays – the imagination of Halloween, the thankfulness of Thanksgiving, and the time when we are able to see family we don’t regularly get the chance to see.

All that from playdough! A while back we made some gluten free playdough {check it out!} – and I’ve seen all the buzz on pinterest about making pumpkin playdough. What fun! So this afternoon we whipped up a batch of our trusty playdough, died it orange and added some cinnamon, cloves and ginger to it. It smells so wonderful – I totally wish I could send the smell to you through the internet!

Pumpkin Pie Playdough {gluten free}

1/2 Cup Rice Flour
1/2 Cup Corn Starch
1/2 Cup Salt
2 teaspoons cream of tarter
1 Cup water
1 teaspoon oil
6 drops yellow food coloring
1 drop of red food coloring (play with the ratios to get the color you want)
1-2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

Mix all ingredients together in a sauce pan until well combined. Turn heat on low and with a sturdy wooden spoon stir constantly keeping the mixture from settling on the bottom of the pan.

Stir and “cook” for about 3-4 minutes or until the mixture forms a loose ball (it will be a bit sticky still – that’s ok). Lightly dust the table with rice flour and dump play dough out to cool. Once cool, kneed it to combine the rice four (if it’s a little sticky feel free to add a tad more flour at this point).

Try to resist the urge to eat it. This is one you (mom and dad) may be tempted to take a taste of (but trust me it’s NOT yummy).
