busy activity pipe cleaner pokes

Pipe Cleaner Pokes

I made this busy activity for Riley for our road trip vacation to Las Vegas. We were going to be on the road for 9+ hours and though we were breaking it up into 2 days and making stops along the way, I knew I needed something to keep both boys busy (other than 9 hours of movies….). This is a great fine motor activity for promoting pincher grasp and hand eye coordination. This kept him busy for about 30-45 minutes!

Pipe Cleaner Pokes

Small plastic container with a lid
Pipe cleaners (chenille sticks…) cut to a size of about half the length of your container
Ice pick (or something similar to poke holes) (hole punch??)

Take your empty plastic container and poke 4-5 holes in the lid. Make them large enough that the pipe cleaners will easily go in without too much resistance or they will bend when little hands poke them through. I made sure the container I chose had a lid that was easy enough for Riley (19 months at the time) to take off and put on again so he could repeat the activity as much as he wanted in the car.

  1. He looks so focused on getting the pipe cleaners into the holes.

    1. He is very determined! I think I’m going to be in trouble here soon as I think that determination is going to turn into being ultra stubborn!
