On a spur of the moment activity, Landon and I made some homemade bathtub paint for his bath. He had so much fun painting himself and the walls of the bathtub. He wasn’t too sure when I first told him what we were going to be doing – as was hesitant for the first few “strokes” making sure he wasn’t going to get into trouble for “painting” on the walls.

This homemade bathtub paint is super easy and very inexpensive to make – and washes away just as easily. It’s literally food coloring and shaving cream. That’s it.

Shaving Cream
Food Coloring
Container that’s bathtub safe (I used an old muffin tin)
Paintbrushes, Popsicle sticks or some other way of spreading and stirring

Fill the muffin tin with shaving cream and put 1-2 drops of food coloring in each well. Mix so that all the food coloring is incorporated into the shaving cream, then bring into the bath!

Landon painted himself, the walls, he even painted me. When Riley is a bit older (and won’t try to eat the shaving cream), I plan on doing this again for the boys to enjoy together.

This washed off fine from the tub and Landon – but the shaving cream that got on the grout of the shower needed a little scrubbing to get out. It didn’t permanently stain it, just took more elbow grease than letting the water run down it to wash it away. Always test before you paint to make sure it won’t stain the surface of your tub!
